Nature of the jobYou see mechanical designs in almost everything in your daily lives, from watches to smart phones, air conditioners, cars, airplanes, wind turbines, just to name a few. It is a fast paced field with ever-evolving technologies. It celebrates innovative and practical solutions to our everyday problems.
This line of job usually requires long hours of dedication in front of your workstations. You need to brainstorm for feasible concepts and go through numerous rounds of design iterations and analyses to ‘perfect’ your ideas. You need strong team spirit and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and other professionals like electrical engineers and software engineers.
The project cycle is usually tight, so you need to manage your time efficiently and deliver on schedule. Peak period usually happens in the first half of the project cycle, from project initiation till design lockdown stage. There will be several rounds of prototype builds and testings in between. The real job satisfaction kicks in when you see your designs come alive during production or available in the market!
