Guest Service Officers are primarily employed in hospitality industry. They oversee front-line operations/reception.
Nature of the jobAs a Guest Service Officer, you will be responsible for a guest’s comfortable stay right from the hotel booking/check-in to check-out. A calm and efficient demeanor is needed to ensure a seamless check-in process which include greeting guests, assigning rooms and collecting guest payment and billing information and fulfilling specific guest requests. For some hotels, you may also serve as concierges, which means that you will need to assist with restaurant/attraction reservations, transportation and providing recommendations on places to visit or eat. You will also need to be professional at all times and have a passion for delivering exceptional levels of service to guests.
On-the-job training is common, as you need to be familiar with proprietary hotel booking software, payment facilities and general information pertaining to the hotel. For entry level, expect to work in varying shifts and night shifts. You will also need to put in long hours, work on weekends and holidays. Your hours will also depend heavily on the travel or holiday seasons. It would be an extra bonus if you are multilingual.
