A facilities engineer designs and oversees facilities of his or her specialisation. It can be of general maintenance, environmental, safety, energy control, or HVAC needs, amongst many others.
Nature of the jobContinuous improvement forms the core of this job, so you need to regularly review and implement new processes or improvements in related facilities. You need to ensure the optimal operation of your assigned projects, which can be high-rise commercial or office buildings, industrial plants, university campuses, medical centres and etc.
To succeed in this role, you need to possess key skills such as analytical thinking, communication and management skills, and ability to work in a team as well as independently. Strong crisis management skills is a huge bonus, where you can identify the root causes and deliver solutions quickly when pressing issues arise. That said, you may be called in outside office hours to resolve technical issues. However, this responsibility is usually shared out on a rotation basis.
