This scholarship provides tuition fee waiver for full-time PhD students in Sociology
The ERC SYNDATA PhD Studentship is part of the European Research Council funded project “The Ethics of Synthetic Data in the Age of Machine Learning and AI” at the University of York. The scholarship supports a doctoral researcher investigating the ethical and political implications of synthetic data and generative AI in contemporary society.

- Open to International (including EU), International (non-EU) and UK (home) students.
- Open to students applying for a full-time, on-campus PhD in Sociology only.
- Applicants must have applied for the PhD in Sociology by 5 June 2026, indicating on their application that they wish to be considered for the ERC funded SYNDATA PhD scholarship.
- Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed toward the end of June.
- Application deadline: Friday 5 June 2026, 5pm BST
