Named after Sir Walter Murdoch, the university was established in 1973 with the goal to serve the local community. Fast forward to today, then university has evolved into an ever-growing and vibrant university with a foothold in the world's stage. The university is also the first in the country to earn the "university" status, and has pioneered the flexible admissions system in the country, where students can apply with pathways beyond the usual examinations. Consistently ranking in the QS World University Rankings Top 500, the university is currently home to over 25,000 students, 38% of them coming from all around the world.

Eligibility criteria for applicants:

  • You are an international, full fee paying student
  • You are starting studies at one of Murdoch's Western Australian campuses
  • You are starting studies for an eligible Murdoch coursework degree set out below
  • You are a citizen of one of the eligible countries set out below
  • You are not receiving any other Murdoch scholarship
  • You are not eligible if:
    • you are an Australian citizen or permanent residency visa holder (even if you are also a citizen of one of the eligible countries)
    • you are not required to pay international student tuition fees
    • you have received an Australian Government scholarship that covers all or part of your tuition fees
    • you are sponsored by a non-Australian Government funding body that covers all or part of your tuition fees
