Established on 1st April 2013, the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), formerly known as University College of Technology Sarawak or UCTS, is a wholly owned Sarawak state university and was upgraded to full-fledged university on 8th November 2021. Strategically located at Sibu, UTS is committed to providing a world-class learning environment through its specialised schools in engineering and technology, computing and creative media, built environment, and business and management.
Today, UTS stands among Malaysia’s best universities in TVET education for advanced skills training, offering a wide range of industry-academic programmes that prepare graduates for a rapidly evolving workforce. UTS has become the first university in Malaysia to receive TVET-Instruction (TVET-I) accreditation, seamlessly integrated within its Bachelor of Technology Management (Honours) programme.
This TVET-I accreditation also reconfirms the pioneering excellence of UTS in championing the dual recognition of academic and technical education, after it has been awarded with Malaysia’s Best University in TVET Education for Advanced Skills Training in 2024.
Apart from that, UTS has also successfully achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification. The globally recognised standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS) demonstrates UTS's steadfast dedication to upholding superior quality standards in its academic and administrative functions.
UTS offers a range of financial assistance options for eligible students such as UTS Bursary Scheme for Foundation Studies, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies. Starting 2026, with Sarawak government initiatives, more Sarawakians are able to pursue their studies at UTS through the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) which fully covers tuition fees for eligible students, significantly enhancing accessibility to higher education.
