University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM) is set to unveil its new campus in Eco Galleria, part of the Eco Botanic City in Johor Bahru.
The new campus is sprawled over 150,000sq ft and has a capacity for 2,000 students. It is designed to provide the best learning and living environment for its students and faculty members. Ask our counsellors what they think of the new campus!
UoSM’s new campus will feature easily accessible laboratories, design studios with 3D printers and laser cutter machines, Aeronautics labs and mechanical workshops.

“The wind tunnel allows us to provide our Aeronautics and Astronautics students with hands-on experience at running aerodynamic experiments,” said Head of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics & Astronautics Programmes Dr Suan Hui Pu. “This is a fundamental part of their training and it enhances their confidence to function as graduate engineers in the future.”
The design studio too will help enhance students’ skills in working with their peers. It provides them with a space to take their design concept through the assembly and testing phases.
The university also added facilities such as the Wet Chemical lab, Thermofluid lab, Green Energy lab and Dry Research lab to enhance the learning experience for students.
“Students can expect the latest technology and the very best facilities to support their learning with us,” said Head of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Programme Dr Siow Yong Low. “At the end of the day, EEE Southampton graduates are not just graduates but engineers, as evidenced by the high employability rate.”
Indeed, the university was ranked third in the UK for career prospects by Guardian University Guide 2020.
All facilities were designed with the comfort of staff and students in mind. That is why students will find lots of room not just in the lecture theatres and labs but also learning spaces.
For example, UoSM’s new campus will have a digital library that can hold more than 200 million digital resources. To complement such a vast learning resource is a variety of learning spaces that can cater to different learning needs.
The campus is situated in a neighborhood that provides a comfortable space for students to socialise and unwind. At Eco Galleria, students can enjoy the British high street experience.
The mall is set to offer a plethora of options in dining, entertainment, and shopping. Aside from that, UoSM students continue to have access to nearby EduCity sports facilities such as football fields, swimming pools, and running tracks.

For accommodation, the Eco Nest and EduCity Village are two options that are the nearest to the campus.
At Eco Nest, students can choose according to their budget and preference on room size. Eco Nest is only 5 minutes walking distance away and would be a popular option for those who do not want to live too far from campus. Students who live there will get to enjoy the lap pool and a well-equipped gym, and have a host of dining and shopping options to choose from directly surrounding the buildings.
For EduCity Village, they too offer single and twin-sharing units that cater to different budgetary and comfort needs. Students also are able to enjoy amenities such as cafeteria, convenience store, laundry room, and shuttle services that can get them around Johor Bahru.
The new campus will provide UoSM staff and students with a spacious and comfortable learning environment. The addition of updated labs and digital library show that UoSM is committed to nurturing graduates that are highly sought after by employers. This is coupled with having various dining, shopping, entertainment, and accommodation facilities nearby to ensure that students are able to have a balanced lifestyle.
